LIONS INTERNATIONAL

Lions Clubs began in the United States of America in 1917. A group of independent clubs responded to a call from a young Chicago insurance agent, Melvin Jones, to launch a club which had community service as its primary aim. Worldwide, the International Association of Lions Clubs has a membership of over 1.4 million in more that 180 countries and geographical areas.

LIONS AUSTRALIA

The first Australian Lions Club was formed in Lismore. From this over 1,400 clubs have grown, with a membership of 30,000.

OUR CLUB - WODEN

The Lions Club of Woden Canberra was established in 1968 and now has a membership of 30 dedicated members. The club held their early meetings and was formed at the Statesman Hotel in Curtin ACT. The club chartered with 20 members, two of whom are still with the club. Over the past 36 years we have had members from many countries - England, Ireland, Scotland, Holland, Lebanon, Pakistan, Fiji, New Zealand, Hungary, Armenia, Hong Kong, United States of America and Poland. Truly a multicultural Lions Club.

To Become a Member

Membership of the Woden Lions Club is open through application to the Membership Committee. All men and women over the age of 18 years and of good moral character and reputation are welcome. It is suggested that you come along to our Club meetings and talk to the members about our projects to help in your decision to join our Club.
